“#meandmybae” 2015. Acrylic on canvas, rope, bench and set piece.

Created for the Love Is Love exhibition at the Emmanuel Gallery. 2015.

In 1873 Pierre-Auguste Cot created Springtime, a painting that over the last 140 years has become one of the most prominent images of young romantic love. Here the work has been recreated as a photo booth or stage set that you are invited to step into to take a seat on the swing with your sweetheart and be photographed. The idea being that romantic love is something that is not only accessible to all of us regardless of sex, age, or race, but also something that is arguably the most profound event of our individual lives. The more couples that participate, the greater our ideas will be surrounding what romantic love “looks like.”

Tag your photos on social media using #meandmybae. Bae, as defined by Urban Dictionary, is an acronym that stands for “before anyone else” or a shortened version of baby or babe. It is another word for sweetheart and is a popular term of endearment used by the youth of today.
